Abstract
The burden of pregnancy in patients with severe mitral stenosis continues to present a therapeutic challenge. A 23-year old woman at 36 weeks' gestation was discovered to have previously undiagnosed severe mitral stenosis. Not responding to
medical
therapy, she underwent percutaneous balloon mitral valvotomy(PMV) using Inoue balloon catheter, which resolved her symptoms completely. She delivered a healthy infant at 38 weeks' gestation. The unique of PMV may render it the technique of choice
for
selected pregnant patients with severe mitral stenosis.
